Kublai Kobra is a rehearsed group improvisation, in which the performers play carefully tuned force-feedback instruments. Force-feedback instruments can be programmed to behave in a very wide variety of ways, which can intriguingly enhance performance techniques. Kublai Kobra is realized with a subset of the symbols from John Zorn’s Cobra. Each of the symbols is displayed on a digitally fabricated sign, which is used in concert by the prompter (Edgar Berdahl) as shown below.
