My research group has invented a new kind of Active Noise Control (ANC) that operates over the Internet of Things.

The idea is that each noise source (e.g. consider an IoT-jackhammer) is connected to the Internet and transmits its noise disturbance signal over the Internet. This way, noise sources can compensate their environment.

This technology enables devices that want to cancel the sound to be able to receive the noise disturbance signal over the Internet to use with an adaptive filter to locally cancel the noise.

This figure shows the noise cancellation system in action: reducing noise, making speech intelligible.
